"Over 70 years of uninterrupted service..."

Back in 2009, the Woodbridge Volunteer Fire Association responded to a solicitation put forth by the Port Authority of New York for distribution of steel from the World Trade Center for the purposes of contruction of memorials. After about two years of waiting, the WVFA received word that our application had been approved and we would receive a piece of steel from one of the World Trade Center Towers. Members of the association travled to JFK Airport - Hanger 17, where the remains of the towers were being stored. The massive steel beam, weighing 1200 lbs was transported back to Woodbridge, where the WVFA planned to build a memorial for the tenth anniversary of the terrorist attacks on America.
With several plans proposed by Silver/Petrucelli Assoociates, it was Mary Maloney Baccars stunning design that was selected. The steel would be shown center stage rising over a reflecting pool with "Never Forget 9-11-01" engraved in the stone, while designed lighting shines a silhouette of two towers on the front of the firehouse. Many days and help from volunteers would be required to have the memorial completed for 9-11-11, but like the fire business, failure would be no option. On the morning of the 10th anniversary the memorial was unveiled to the public. Our memorial is opened for all to see. Stop by our firehouse to reflect on the memories of that day and all who were lost.
